From Trauma to Atmospheric Resonance
Timothy Crespi, LPC, CADC and Alissa Bazinet, Ph.D.
Unresolved trauma can be explained as the overcompensation for experiences that are “Too much, Too fast” for the nervous system. Unresolved trauma can also be passed down through generations, contributing to the collective experience. In this talk, we convey a deeper understanding of what trauma is from the perspective of the body, the mind, and the collective. We define individual and societal systems that perpetuate trauma with an emphasis on relationship between trauma and the therapeutic “set and setting”. We then discuss the importance of creating a container for MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy that aligns with the sensitivities of this highly open and suggestible state. Finally, we will present a model for a beautifully designed and ideal set and setting for MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy that we are currently working to create in Portland, OR.
Timothy Crespi, LPC, CADC is the owner and founder of Somatic Center Portland, a collective of body-centered practitioners who come together around one principle: that the body and mind are not separate. Alissa is an advocate for harm reduction services and education at music festivals and events, and a longtime volunteer for the Zendo Project and White Bird Rock Medicine. She is an organizer of the “Entheogenesis Psychedelic Speaker Series” at Burning Man.
Alissa and Tim are in training with the MAPS (Multidisciplinary Association for Psychedelic Studies) MDMA-Assisted Psychotherapy Therapist Training Program.
